since ab = 15

b= 15/a

put b=15/a in a - b =2

a - 15/a = 2

a^2 - 15 = 2a

a^2 - 2a -15 =0

solving quadratic equation

a^2 -5a +3a-15=0

a(a-5) +3(a-5)=0

(a+3)= 0 or (a-5) =0

Therefore a = -3 or a= 5

Accordingly from eq. a-b =2

b= -5 or b = 3

To find the value of a^2 - b^2

= (a+b)(a-b)

=(a+b)× 2

(a+b)= 8 or -8

so, (a+b) × 2

= 16 or -16
