We have to find the value of b if α and 1/α are the roots of the polynomial, ax² + bx + c = 0

solution : α and 1/α is the roots of polynomial ax² + bx + c = 0

then, sum of roots = - coefficient of x/coefficient of x²

⇒α + 1/α = -b/a

and product of roots = constant/coefficient of x²

⇒α × 1/α = c/a

⇒1 = c/a

a = c

we can't say anything about b , it belongs to all real numbers. but a is equal to c.

Therefore b ∈ R and a = c
