Step-by-step explanation:

 {x}^{2}  - 6x + 5 \\  =  {x}^{2}  - 5x - x + 5 \\  = x(x - 5) - 1(x - 5) \\  = (x - 1)(x - 5) \\ x = 1 \: and \: 5

at \: x =  - 3 \\  {x }^{2}  - 6x + 5 \\  = ( { - 3})^{2}  - 6( - 3) + 5 \\  = 9 + 9 + 5 \\  = 23

and \: at \: x =  \frac{1}{2}  \\  (\frac{1}{2} ) ^{2}  - 6( \frac{1}{2} ) + 5 \\  =  \frac{1}{4}  -  \frac{6}{2}  + 5 \\  =  \frac{1}{4}  - 3 + 5 \\  =  \frac{1}{4}  + 2 \\  =  \frac{1 + 8}{4}  \\  =  \frac{9}{8}
