Find the value of k for which following equation has real and equal roots:
1) 4x^2+kx+9=0
2) x^2_2(k+1)x+k^2

Heya

For real and equal roots;

Discriminant,D is

b {}^{2}  - 4ac = 0

So..

(1)4x {}^{2}  + kx + 9 = 0 \\  \\( k ){}^{2} - 4(4)(9) = 0 \\ k {}^{2}   - 144 = 0 \\ k {}^{2}   = 144 \\ k =  \sqrt{144}  \\ k = 12
