consider equation (1)

2x + 3y = 7

multiple whole equation with 2

( 2x + 3y = 7 ) * 2

==> 4x + 6y = 14

now

4x + ay = 14 ............ (1)

4x + 6y = 14 ............(2)

substracting (2) with (1)

we get

ay - 6y = 0

==> ay = 6y

y on both sides get cancel

==> a = 6
