on comparing this eq with standard form of quadratic equation ax²+bx+c =0

we get

a= k , b = 2 and c= 3

for real and equal roots

D=0

b²-4ac=0

2²-4×k ×3 =0

4-12k =0

-12k = -4

k= -4/-12

k= 1/3
