\textbf{ solution–}

If 1 is a factor of
 {x}^{4}  - 2 {x}^{3}  - kx - 1 \\

putting 1 in the place of x

 {x}^{4}  - 2 {x}^{3}  - kx - 1 = 0 \\  \\  {1}^{4}  - 2 \times 1 ^{3}  - k \times 1 - 1  = 0\\  \\ 1 - 2 - k - 1 = 0 \\  \\  - 2 - k = 0 \\  \\ k =  - 2

\textbf{ So, the value of k is –2.}

x⁴ - 2x³ - kx - 1 = 0

As 1 is a zero of this polynomial.

x = 1 and solve,

1⁴ - 2 * 1³ - k - 1 = 0

1 - 2 - k - 1 = 0

1 and -1 will get cancelled out,

-2 -k = 0

- k = 2

k = -2
