Value of k= -3.

Given:

  • 4 {x}^{3} + 3 {x}^{2} - 4x + k\\

  • x - 1\\ is a factor.

To find:

  • Find the value of k.

Solution:

Theorem concept to be used:

Factors Theorem: If a polynomial p(x) have a factor x-a, then p(a)=0.

Step 1:

Find value of x from factor.

x - 1 = 0 \\

or

\bf x = 1 \\

Step 2:

Let

p(x) = 4 {x}^{3} + 3 {x}^{2} - 4x + k \\

Put x= 1 in p(x) and set to zero.

p(1) = 4 {(1)}^{3} + 3 {(1)}^{2} - 4(1) + k \\

or

4 {(1)}^{3} + 3 {(1)}^{2} - 4(1) + k = 0 \\

or

4 + 3 -4 + k = 0 \\

or

3 + k = 0 \\

or

\bf \pink{k = - 3}\\

Thus,

Value of k= -3.
