Hi !

As you have not specified the equation , here is an eg: of the method to solve such a question :-

-------------------------------------------------------
Question - Find the value of k for which the given equation (k+4)x² + (k+1)x+1=0 has equal roots.

Solution :-(k + 4)x² + (k + 1)x + 1 = 0
a = (k +4) , b = (k +1) , c = 1

As the equation has equal roots ,
b² - 4ac = 0
(k+1)² - 4(k+4) (1) = 0
k² + 2k + 1 - 4k -16 = 0
k² - 2k -15 = 0
(k - 5)(k + 3) = 0
k = 5 , k = -3

the values of k are 5 and -3
