Given that a²-1 is a factor of e polynomial.

a²-1 = 0

a² = 1

a = ±1

So,put a = 1 and -1 to find p and q

First put a = 1

p(1)⁴-7(1)³+9(1)²+q(1)-10 = 0

p-7+9+q-10 = 0

p+q-8 = 0

p+q = 8 ---------(1)

Put a = -1

p(-1)⁴-7(-1)³+9(-1)²+q(-1)-10 = 0

p(1)-7(-1)+9(1)-q-10 = 0

p+7+9-q-10 = 0

p-q+6 = 0

p-q = -6 -----(2)

(1) + (2)

p+q = 8
p-q = -6

2p = 2

p = 2/2

p = 1

Put p=1 in (1)

1+q = 8

q = 8-1

q = 7

Therefore, p=1 and q=7
