2x^2 - 4x + p = 0
We want equal roots ..so discriminant should be zero .

Comparing equation to ax^2 + bx + c = 0 , we get :
a = 2 ; b= -4 ; c= p

Now , Discriminant
= b^2 -4ac = 0
= -4^2 - 4*2*p =0
= 16 -8p =0
= -8p = -16
= p = -16 / -8
= p = 2

Hence , the required value if p is 2 .

Step-by-step explanation:

x2 + (p - 3) x + p = 0

Here, A = 1, B =(р- 3), С = р

Since, the roo aleal and equal, D = 0

B2 - 4ac = 0

(p - 3)2 - 4(1) (p) = 0

p2 + 9 - 6p - 4p = 0

p2 - 10p + 9 = 0

(p-1) (p - 9) = 0

p = 1 or p = 9
