1)Let sin a = x and then cos a =√(1-x^2)

Use trigonometric identity :
sin ^2 (a) + cos ^2(a) = 1:

2)Substitute it in given equation .

3) Use quadratic formula to solve quadratic equation .

4) x = 5/13 or 4/5 .
