Find the value of x and y

x + y = 7 ; x - y = 2

l l Answer l l

x + y = 7 => x = 7 - y .........( 1 )

x - y = 2 => y = x - 2 .........( 2 )

in equation ( 1 ) ,putting the value of y,we get

x = 7 - y

=> x = 7 - ( x - 2 )

=> x = 7 - x + 2

=> x + x = 9

=> 2x = 9

=> x = 9/2

in equation ( 2 ) ,putting the value of x ,we get

y = x - 2

=> y = 9/2 - 2

=> y = 9 - 4/2

=> y = 5/2
