since the given figure is a rectangle

DC = AB and. AD = BC

x + 3y = 13 3x + y = 7

on solving the above 2 equations

3x + 9y = 39

3x + y = 7

__________

8y = 32

y = 4

x + 3(4) = 13

x = 13-12

x. = 1

therefore x = 1 and y = 4

Step by step explanation:

We know in a rectangle,

Opposite sides are equal.

Therefore,

x+3y=13 ---(i)

Similarly,

3x+y=7 ---(i i)

By using Substitution method,

From (i) ,

x= 13-3y---(i i i)

Now, Substituting the Value of x in (i i),

3(13-3y)+y=7

= 39-9y+y=7

= 8y=32

= y =4

Now, putting the value of y in (i i i),

x=13-3(4)

x=13-12

x=1

Hence,x=1

y=4
