x + 80 = 180 ---- linear pair

therefore x = 100 degrees

angle BCA + angle ACB = 180 ------- linear pair

angle BCA + 120 = 180

therefore angle BCA = 60 degrees

in triangle ABC,

angle ABC = y

angle ABC + angle BAC + angle ACB = 180 degrees ------- sum of all angles of a triangle is 180 degrees

y + 80 + 60 = 180

y = 180 - 140

therefore y = 40 degrees

hence, x = 60 and y = 40
