Step-by-step explanation:

X+Y=25……(1)

X-Y=5…..(2)

Now just add equation 1 and 2 (as you can see that +Y and -Y will cancel out and that is the reason addition is used in such cases)

So adding both eq.1 and eq.2 we have,

2X=30(Since,Y cancels out)

Hence,X=30÷2=15

Now put the value of X any of those above equations (both will give you the same result)

Therefore putting in eq.1,

X+Y=25

15+Y=25

Y=25–15=10

So,X=15

Y=10

Put both values in the equation to check if you are correct or not

Hope it helps

X+y=25 and X-y=5. What is the value of X and y?

The two equations are given as below

X + y = 25 . . Eq..1

X - y = 5. . Eq..2

The value of X from Eq..2

X - y = 5

X = 5 + y

Substituting the value of X in Eq..1

X + y = 25

5 + y + y = 25

5 + 2y = 25

2y = 25 - 5

2y = 20

y = 20/2

y = 10

Substituting the value of y in Eq..2 to derive value of X

X - y = 5

X - 10 = 5

X = 5 + 10

X = 15

The value of X is 15 and the value of y is 10

Answer :The value of X is 15 and the value of y is 10
