5x-2y=4 -(1)

x+8y=26 -(2)

by taking 1

5x=4+2y

x=4+2y/5

put x in 2

4+2y/5+8y=26

4+2y+40y/5=26

4+42y=130

42y=126

y=126/42

y=3

put y=3in 1

5x-6=4

5x=10

x=2

to find =x+y

x=2and y=3

2+3=5

answer =5

Answer:

x+y = 5

Step-by-step explanation:

5x-2y = 4 .......1

x+ 8y = 26.......2

By elimination method

Multiply 1 equation by 8 and 2 equation by 2

40x -16y= 32

2x -16y = 52

By solving these equation

42x = 84

x = 2

Put the value of x in 2 equation

x + 8y = 26

2 + 8y = 26

8y = 24

y = 3

x+y = 2+3 = 5
