let A( 2,3 ) and B(y,1) be the given points.

Here AB = 10 units given

Therefore by distance formula

AB = √ ( x1-x2)²+(y1-y2)²

10 = √ (2 - y)²+(3 - 1)²

Square both sides

100 = 4 + y² - 4y + 4
92 = y² - 4y
y² - 4y - 92 = 0

By completing the square method,

y² - 4y= 92
y² - 4y + 4 = 92 + 4
( y - 2)² = 96
