priyansh01kp: niks you have made mistake in last second step. Look very carefull if you had not cancelled the power of k then k will have 2 values that are 3 and 0 both. Not just only 3 is the single value of k.

Given 2x2 + kx + 3 = 0 has equal roots  Hence b2 – 4ac = 0 That is (k)2 – 4(2)(3) = 0 k2 – 24 = 0 k2 = 24∴ k = ± 2√6
