Suppose the radius of the base of circular cylinder is r.

Height of cylinder = 4 cm

Total surface area of cylinder = 2πrh+2πr2 = 484 cm2

⇒2πr(r+h) = 484⇒2×227×r(r+4) = 484⇒r(r+4) = 484×72×22⇒r2+4r = 77⇒r2+4r−77 = 0⇒r2+11r−7r−77 = 0⇒r(r+11)−7(r+11) = 0⇒(r−7)(r+11) = 0⇒r = 7 or r = −11

Since the radius can't be negative so neglect r = -11

So, r = 7

Therefore, the volume of circular cylinder = πr2h = 227×72×4 = 227×49×4 = 616 cm3
