Volume

Given

A closed box is to be made with dimensions:

40cm × 35 cm × 30 cm

The width of rectangular metal sheet is 2 cm.

To Find

Volume of metal used.

Method

We will first calculate the area of metal which is total surface area of box.

Then we will find the volume of box.

Solving

Total Surface Area of Cuboid =

2( LB + BH + HL )

where

L is length of Cuboid.

B is breadth of Cuboid.

H is Height of Cuboid.

Lets assume,

L = 40 cm

B = 35 cm

H = 30 cm

Total Surface Area of box =

2( 40*35 + 35*30 + 30*40) cm²

2( 1400 + 1050 + 1200 ) cm²

2( 3650 ) cm²

7300 cm²

So, area equivalent to 7300 cm² will be required from metal sheet to make box.

Now,

Volume of Metallic Sheet =

Area * Width

So, volume of metallic sheet =

7300 cm² * 2 cm

14600 cm³

Answer

So, to make box of required dimension we will need metallic sheet with volume 14,600 cm³.

Learn More :

Cuboid

It is a 3D shape.

Its volume is L * B * H.

where

L = Length

B = Breadth

H = Height
