GIVEN

f(x) = x^2 - 5

a = 1

b = 0

c = -5

TO FIND

Zeroes of polynomial and their relation

SOLUTION

x^2 - 5 = 0

=> x^2 = 5

=> x = +/- √5

=> x = √5 or - √5

The roots are √5 and -√5

VERIFICATION

Sum of zeroes = -b/a

=> √5 + (-√5) = 0 = 0/1 = -b/a

Product of zeroes = c/a

=> √5 × √5 = 5 = 5/1 = c/a

Hence LHS = RHS, Verified
