x^2 - 2x + 1 = 0

x^2 -x - x + 1 = 0

x(x - 1) -1(x - 1) = 0

(x - 1)(x - 1) = 0

(x - 1)^2 = 0

(x - 1) = 0

=> x = 1.

Thus, the root of the polynomial is x = 1.
