Find three rational numbers between 5 and -2. Answer given behind is 13/4 > 3/2 > –1/4

Let x = - 2 ; y = 5

y > x ; n = 3

d = y - x/n + 1

= 5 - (-2)/3 + 1

= 5 + 2/4

= 7/4

1st rational number = x + d

= -2 + 7/4

= - 8 + 7/4

= - 1/4

2nd rational number = x + 2d

= - 2 + 2 × 7/4

= - 2 + 14/4

= - 8 + 14/4

= 6/4

3rd rational number = x + 3d

= - 2 + 3 × 7/4

= - 2 + 21/4

= - 8 + 21/4

= 13/4
