• Let two consecutive multiples be M and M + 3

» The product of two consecutive multiples (i.e. M and M + 3) is 270

=> M(M + 3) = 270

=> M² + 3M - 270 = 0

Now the above equation is in the form ax² + bx + c.

We have to factorise it such that it's sum came 'b' i.e 3 and product came 'c' i.e. -270

=> M² + 18M - 15M - 270 = 0

=> M(M + 18) -15(M + 18) = 0

=> (M - 15) (M + 18) = 0

• M - 15 = 0

=> M = 15

• M + 18 = 0

=> M = - 18 (neglected)

So,

=> M + 3

=> 15 + 3 = 18
