Two numbers are in the ratio 8:7.

Let the numbers be 8x and 7x. Such that,

8x-12.5 : 7x-12.5 = 11 : 9

So we have to write this as fraction like the following:

\leadsto\ \frac{8x-12.5}{7x-12.5}=\frac{11}{9} \\ \\ \leadsto\ \frac{2(8x-12.5)}{2(7x-12.5)}=\frac{11}{9} \\ \\ \leadsto\ \frac{16x-25}{14x-25}=\frac{11}{9} \\ \\ \leadsto\ 9(16x-25)=11(14x-25) \\ \\ \leadsto\ 144x-225=154x-275 \\ \\ \leadsto\ 275-225=154x-144x \\ \\ \leadsto\ 50=10x \\ \\ \leadsto\ 5=x \\ \\ \leadsto\ \textit{\underline{\underline{40}}}=8x \\ \\ \leadsto\ \textit{\underline{\underline{35}}}=7x

So the numbers are 40 and 35.

Thank you. :-))
