and if other is twice means it is 2x
and then 6 is added means
it is 2x+6
so,
2x+6-x=8
x+6=8
x=8-6
x=2

2x + 6 = 90
2x = 90 - 6
x = 84/2
x = 42
apply x value in x - y = 8
so 42 - y = 8
y = 42 - 8 = 34
