Answer: x = (1/2) and y = (-1)

Step-by-step explanation:

we are given,

x*y = x/y = (x+y)

now from this we can say that,

x*y = x/y

x*y^2 = x   (multiplying both the sides by y)

y^2 = 1

y = +- root (1)

either y = (1) or y = (-1)

now,

from (i) we have,

x*y = (x+y)

now, if y = (1) then, the equation becomes

x = (x+1)  this equation is not possible for any value of x

now, if y = (-1) then, the equation becomes

x*y = (x+y)

-x = (x-1)

2*x = 1

x = 1/2     ( which is possible)

hence, the required value of x and y are 1/2 and (-1) respectively.
