The infrastructure for cycling is not ready yet in any of the Indian cities, of course there are political stunts which involve the ceremonious openings of a a few kilometres of cycle tracks every now and then, but in reality they are a gimmick. While you can purchase expensive cycles like those from Trek now in India, for the road to ride it you have to depend on our government. I stay in Pune and I am happy to see that many people are still taking to the road on their bikes bearing with all the risks. I can't say that these people really have chosen cycling as an alternative to conventional transport but they are trying to make a change.
