we have to find the value of k, if -4 is a zero of polynomial, x² - x - (2k + 2).

solution : here -4 is a zero of the polynomial, x² - x - (2k + 2).

∴ if we put the value of x = -4 in polynomial, the value of polynomial must be zero.

⇒ (-4)² - (-4) - (2k + 2) = 0

⇒ 16 + 4 - 2k - 2 = 0

⇒ 18 - 2k = 0

⇒ k = 18/2 = 9

Therefore the value of k is 9.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

 {x}^{2} - x(2k + 2) \\

-4 is the zero of polynomial.

To find: What is the value of k?

Solution:

Step 1: Let

p(x) = {x}^{2} - x(2k + 2) \\

Step 2: put P(-4)=0

p( - 4) = ( { - 4)}^{2} - ( - 4)(2k + 2) \\ \\ ( { - 4)}^{2} - ( - 4)(2k + 2) = 0 \\ \\ 16 + 4(2k + 2) = 0 \\ \\ 16 + 8(k + 1) = 0 \\ \\ 8(k + 1) = - 16 \\ \\ k + 1 = - 2 \\ \\ k = - 3 \\ \\

Final answer:

Value of k is -3.

Hope it helps you.
