Answer:

x = 1.5849

y = 0.5428

Step-by-step explanation:

We have the equations as follows :

2^x = 3....... i

9^y = 3^x - 9.........ii)

From i we can get the value of x.

2^x = 3

Taking logs on both sides we have :

x log 2 = log 3

x = log 3 / log 2

x = 1.5849

We substitute this value in equation ii as follows :

9^y = 3^(1.5849) - 9

9^y = 5.7041 - 9

9^y = 3.2959

Taking logs on both sides we have :

y log 9 = log 3.2959

y = log 3.2959 / log 9

y = 0.5428

The values of x and y are as follows :

x = 1.5849

y = 0.5428
