1 - 2 - 5 + 6 =
- 1 + 1 = 0 so 1 is a root and can be written as x - 1 now do long division

................x^3 - 2x^2 - 5x + 6
x - 1.........x^3 - x^2
.......................- x^2 - 5x
......................- x^2 + x
................................- 6x + 6
................................- 6x + 6
so we have (x - 1)(x^2 - x - 6) as factors the second term can factored further and we get
(x - 1)(x - 3)(x + 2)
