Concept:

A Wheatstone bridge is an electrical bridge consisting of two branches of a parallel circuit joined by a galvanometer and is mainly used for determining the value of an unknown resistance in one of the branches and solving complex circuits.

Given:

The five capacitors with their capacitances.

Find:

The equivalent capacitance between points A and B.

Solution:

In the Wheatstone bridge, the middle capacitor becomes null.

So, the upper two capacitors are in series, and the lower two capacitors are in series. The combination of these is parallel with each other.

C₁₂ = (C₁C₂)/(C₁ + C₂)

C₁₂ = (2×2)/(2+2) = 1 μF

Similarily, C₃₄ = (C₃C₄)/(C₃ + C₄)

C₃₄ = (2×2)/(2+2) = 1 μF

Total capacitance, C = C₁₂ + C₃₄

Equivalnet capacitance, C = 1 μF + 1 μF = 2 μF

Hence, the equivalent capacitance between points A and B in the given circuit is 2 μF. Hence, the correct option is (c) 2 μF.
