SOLUTION

GIVEN

Five less than the quotient of a number and 3 is - 7

EVALUATION

Let the required number = x

So by the given condition

\displaystyle \sf{ \frac{x}{3} - 5 =  - 7 }

\displaystyle \sf{ \implies  \frac{x}{3}  =5  - 7 }

\displaystyle \sf{ \implies  \frac{x}{3}  = - 2 }

\displaystyle \sf{ \implies  x =  - 2 \times 3 }

\displaystyle \sf{ \implies  x =  -6 }
