To find : the field at centre of hexagon is..

solution : see figure, ABCDEF is a regular hexagon. five identical charges are placed at A, B , C , D and E as shown in figure.

here electric field due to B is cancelled by electric field due to E [ because equal and opposite vectors cancel each other ]

similarly, electric field due to A is cancelled by electric field due to D.

so remaining electric field = electric field due to C

Therefore net electric field = electric field due to C = kq/a² along OF

[ i.e., direction of electric field along the vertex where charge was not placed ]
