Five resistors 2ohm, 3ohm, 4ohm, 5ohm and 6ohm are connected in series across a battery of 6 volts. Calculate the current through 5ohm resistor.
Answers
We know that in series circuit net resistance is the summation of all the resistance, Hence
Total Resistance, R = 2+3+4+5+6 = 20 ohms
Now we know that current in the circuit = voltage/Resistance
= 6/20
= 0.3 Amperes.
Now in series circuit current remains same for all the elements, Hence
Current in 5 ohm resistance = 0.3 Amperes.
To start with I would like to go extra mile by letting you know how to calculate total resistance is then I will show you how to calculate the current flowing on a given resistor.
1/R= 1/R1+1/R2+1/R3+1/R4+1/R5 where R is the total resistance;
1/R= (1/2 + 1/3 + 1/4 + 1/5 + 1/6) ohms
R= 0.69 ohms
Then to calculate current flowing on 5ohm resistor use the formula;
I= V/R where; I= current, V= voltage and R= resistance given
I= 6/5
I= 1.2 A ( where A is the amperes)
