The Barberton Makhonjwa mountains have become a tourist spot, thanks to its scenic beauty and geological importance. This mountain range is the site of some of world’s oldest exposed rocks, dating back millions of years. Ever since receiving the World Heritage status, there has been a control in illegal harvesting and grazing. Plantations which grow pine and eucalyptus have thrived because of government control. It was once a gold mining site, but then mining has reduced drastically in recent times.

The Barberton Makhonjwa mountains lie mostly across South Africa and the remaining portion over Swaziland.
