Five years ago, a mother was seven times as old as her daughter. Five years
hence, she will be three times as old as her daughter. Find their present ages.​

LET DAUGHTER'S AGE BE x AND MOM'S AGE BE y

y-5=7(x-5)

y-5=7x-35

30=7x-y                 eq 1

after 5 years

y+5=3(x+5)

y+5=3x+15

y-3x=10                     eq 2

adding eq 1 and 2

7x-y=30

-3x+y=10

⇒4x=40

⇒x=10

in eq 1

30=7*10-y

y=70-30

y=40
