Let the age of son be x and father by y

Case 1.

y-5=7(x-5)

y = 7x-35+5

y=7x-30

Case 2

y+5 = 3(x+5)

7x-30+5=3x+15

4x=15+25

x=40

x=10

y=70-30

y=40

Thus age of father is 40 years and son is 10 years
