Let the daughter's age 5 years ago be x
so her mother's age 5 years ago is 7x
After 5 years,
mother's age is 7x + 10
daughter's age is x + 10
According to question,
the equation is
7x + 10 = 3(x + 10)
7x + 10 = 3x + 30
7x = 3x + 20
7x - 3x = 20
4x = 20
x = 20/4
x = 5
Present daughter's age = x + 5 = 5 + 5 = 10
Present mother's age = 7x + 5 =(7*5) + 5 = 35 + 5 = 40
Hope this helps !!!
