Answer:

let the present age of john be x and that of his daughter be y.

from first condition,

x+5=3(y+5)

x+5=3y+15

x-3y=15-5

x-3y=10............. (1)

From second condition,

x-5=7(y-5)

x-5=7y-35

7y-x=30........(2)

adding one and two we get,

y=10 and x=40

therefore, John present age is 40 years and his daughter is 10 years
