The kindling temperature of hardened steel is above its melting point and since melting point should be higher to perform flame cutting, it cannot be performed. It also contains refractory chromium oxide formed on the surface which in turn prohibits the normal oxygen flame cutting.
Because of the above reasons, flame cutting is not preferred for edge preparation of hardened steel.
