The panchayati raj system in India was introduced by a constitutional amendment in 1992. It is a system of local self - government in India. Various number of Indian committees conducted studies on how to implement a decentralized form of administration. Ultimately the panchayati raj system was formalized based on these studies. The three levels of the panchayati raj system are as follows:-
1) Gram Panchayat at the village level
2) Block Samiti or Mandal Parishad at the block level
3) Zilla Parishad at the district level.
