Following are the molecules or ions of the type AH₃ where A
is the central atom. In which of them does the central atom A
use its sp² hybrid orbitals to form A-H bonds ?

Among given options sp² hybrid orbitals are present in - (c) CH₃⁺

Hybridisation refers to mixing of orbitals of atoms to form new chemical bonds.

In electronic configuration, s orbital can accommodate two electrons and p orbital can accommodate six electrons.

Among given options, molecule with CH₃⁻ or methyl anion has sp³ hybridisation. NH3 or ammonia has sp³ hybridisation.

PH3 or phosphine should have sp³ hybridisation same as NH3 but it is unhybridised molecule.
