Answer:

add all the 8 students'weights and also add 62 kg to it.

then divide the total by 9.

you get the mean weight

=(48.5+50+44.5+49.5+50.5+45+51+43+62)/9

=444/9

= 49.333...

Mean of the weights = 49.333 kg

Given:

The weights (in kg) of 8 students of a class are

48.5, 50, 44.5, 49.5, 50.5, 45, 51, 43

To find:

The mean weight

Solution:

Given data 48.5, 50, 44.5, 49.5, 50.5, 45, 51, 43

As we know the formula for mean is given by

Mean = Sum of observations/ number of observations

From given data,

Sum of observations = 48.5+ 50+ 44.5+ 49.5+ 50.5+ 45+ 51+ 43 = 382

Number of observations = 8

Mean of the 8 weights = 382/8 = 47.75 kgs

Given that a student, whose weight is 62 kg is also included

Then sum of the weights = 382+62 = 444 kg

Number of observations = 9

Mean of the new data =444/9 = 49.333 kg

Mean of the weights = 49.333 kg
