Median age of the family members is 32.

Step-by-step explanation:

The given data :

Age  :          0-10        10-20            20-30          30-40          40-50

members :    5              2x                 12                 3x                 18

Total number of family members = 60

Therefore,      5 + 2x + 12 + 3x + 18 = 60

35 + 2x + 3x = 60

2x + 3x = 60 - 35

5x = 25

x = 25/5

x = 5

So, 2x = 10 and 3x = 15

Now find the median age of family member.

Class :            0-10       10-20            20-30      30-40            40-50

Frequency :     5            10                  12             15                  18

cf                :      5           15                   27             42                  60

n = 60

To find median class :

= value of (\frac{n}{2} )th observation

= value of (\frac{60}{2} )th observation

= value of 30th observation

30th observation lies in 30-40

Therefore, the median class is 30-40.

Median  M=L+\frac{\frac{n}{2}-cf }{f}\times c

L = lower boundary point of median class = 30

n = Total frequency = 60

cf = Cumulative frequency of the class preceding the median class  =  27

f = Frequency of the median class = 15

c = class length of median class = 10

 =30+\frac{30-27}{15}\times 10

=30+\frac{3}{15}\times 10

= 30 + 2

= 32

Median age of the family members is 32.
