Solution: Zinc is highly reactive metal and are purposely not used for storing food items.


This is because the acidic content of the food might react with the zinc thus poisoning the food particles.


Tins however are less reactive and do not react with the mild acidic content of the food without poisoning it.

Zinc is much more reactive as compared to tin and can react with natural acids and bases in foodmaterials. Therefore food cans are made up of tin and notzinc.
