British directly produced and encouraged the import of commercial crops such as sugar, jute, wheat, and cotton.
As the population has increased during the centuries and demand for food going up the boundaries of cultivation were enhanced considerably.
Forests were cleared and new land has been broken to cultivate new food.
Before this time land was considered unfit for cultivation.
Through British intervention encouragement to make food in such lands were promoted.
