For a meal in a restaurant, a customer got 10% happy hour discount but paid 2.5% CGST and 2.5% SGST on the discounted rate. Had he got Rs 200 as discount and then paid the said taxes, he would have paid Rs 42 more. What was the price of meal before discount?

Answer:

2400 Rs

Step-by-step explanation:

Let us find out how much he paid after the discount first,

Let original bill be X

Discount on bill is 10% so 0.1X

Bill after discount= 1X-0.9X= 0.9X

Tax is 5%(2.5%+2.5%) on 0.9X

So bill after tax= 0.9X+(0.9X*5%)

= 0.9X+0.045X

= 0.945X

In Other Case,

Discount= 200

So bill after discount is 1X-200

Tax on discounted bill = (1X-200)*5%

BIll after tax= (1X-200)+ (1X-200)*5%

= 1X-200+.05X-10

= 1.05X-210

Now as per question, difference between these bills is 42Rs

So, 1.05X-210-0.945X=42

1.05X-210-0.945X=42

0.105X=42+210

0.105X= 252

X= 252/0.105

X=2400

Answer:

The original Price of the meal is 2400₹

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the original Price of meal be x

Given that,

The discount received by customer=10%

The total tax paid by customer on discounted rate=SGST+CGST=2.5+2.5=5%

Therefore the price paid by him in this situation is calculated as follows

discount -  > 10 \: perc. \\  =  > x -  \frac{10}{100} x = 0.9x \\ 5 \: perc. \: tax =  > 0.9x +  \frac{5}{100} (0.9x) \\  = 0.945x

Hence,the price paid by him is 0.945x

Also given if discount was 200,he would have paid 42 more than 0.945x

discount = 200 \\  =  > x - 200 \\ taxes =  > (x - 200) +  \frac{5}{100} (x - 200) \\  = 1.05x - 210

According to given condition,we get

1.05x - 210 = 0.945x + 42 \\  =  > 0.105x = 252 \\  =  > x = 2400

Hence,The original Price of the meal is 2400
