Solution :-

Marks obtained No. of students. CF

0 - 10 5 5

10 - 20 11 16

20 - 30 12 28

30 - 40 14 42

40 - 50 30 72

Now, we know that,

  • The modal class is the class with the highest frequency.
  • The median class interval is the corresponding class where the median value falls.
  • Class marks of modal class = (Lower limit of modal class + higher limit of modal class) / 2 .

So,

from given data we have :-

  • Modal class :- Highest frequency as 30 = 40 - 50
  • class marks of modal class = (40 + 50)/2 = 90/2 = 45 = x .
  • Median of No. of students = (5 + 1)/2 = 3rd term in ascending order = 12 .
  • Median class = containing median = 30 - 40 .
  • upper limit of median class = 40 = y .

Therefore,

2x + y

→ 2 * 45 + 40

→ 90 + 40
